When I worked in banking I frequently interviewed kids from Rutgers as we had someone from the recruiting department as an Alum who pushed a lot of resumes from the school.

Most kids I’ve chatted with, even ones with really high GPAs, were unremarkable or crappy interviewers who didn’t know much about the job or lacked basic finance knowledge from my personal experience. That said, the ones that did have such qualities went farther in the interview process and we took a few guys from the school

Sounds like it’s easier to stand out as a strong candidate from a school like that compared to a good school then?

Somewhat. It’s easier as a Rutgers student to stand out compared to other applicants from Rutgers

When compared to students from better schools, they usually aren’t as polished or as strong overall, but occasionally there are one or two who are impressive and you can tell they likely worked really hard to both network with the team and prepare for the interviews enough to land the offer
