Going to NYC for Spring Break

Hey everyone,

Don’t want to sound like a hardo, but I’m struggling to gain traction and am very motivated to make the most of my time in NYC over spring break. I’m planning to hit up some of my old contacts as well as reach out to new people to meet with while I’m there, and I want to be as efficient as possible with networking.

For those who have done something similar, any tips on reaching out, setting up meetings, or making the most of in-person networking? Also, what are the best hotels to stay at that are close to the major banks?

Would really appreciate any insights—thanks in advance!

Wouldn't worry about being close to banks since basically all of them are within walking distance of one another in midtown. I sent emails a month in advance just to see if people would be around that week / be top of mind, followed up a week before to confirm days and times. Then just went from chat to chat. Also a good opp to grab beers with junior bankers from your school if you have any alumni you are close with. If you do that, would advise to talk about anything non work related. Be sociable and make connections. Relationships are key

That sounds like a solid plan! When reaching out to contacts, be clear about what you’re looking for and personalize your messages. Try to set meetings during the day when people are usually more available. For new connections, use LinkedIn to introduce yourself and express your interest in meeting. For hotels, look at options in Midtown or the Financial District, like the Conrad or Four Seasons. They’re close to major banks. Have a plan for each meeting and do some research on your contacts so you can ask good questions. Good luck, and enjoy your trip to NYC!
