Going to work with Helicopter

Incoming analyst at a BB think GS/JPM/MS and our place/home has a helicopter pad. This is a serious question, is it ok take it to work? I don’t want to make a bad impression.

I have grown riding it with my mom and dad and I think it is more convenient than driving, but curious to hear more experienced folks opinions.

Using a helicopter to commute to work, even if you have access to a helipad at home, can send mixed signals in a professional environment, especially as an incoming analyst at a top-tier investment bank like GS, JPM, or MS. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some considerations:

  1. Perception Matters: As an incoming analyst, you're at the start of your career. Using a helicopter for your commute might come across as overly flashy or disconnected from your peers, who are likely taking more conventional routes to work. This could unintentionally create a barrier between you and your colleagues.

  2. Cultural Fit: Investment banks often value humility and teamwork. While your background and resources are your own, projecting an image of relatability and approachability is crucial, especially early in your career.

  3. Practicality: Depending on your office location, using a helicopter might not even be feasible. Urban areas like NYC have strict air traffic regulations, and landing near financial districts can be challenging. Additionally, the logistics of coordinating takeoff and landing times could complicate your schedule.

  4. Alternative Options: If convenience is your primary concern, consider other efficient modes of transportation like car services or public transit. These options are more in line with what your peers might use and help you blend into the workplace culture.

Ultimately, while it’s a unique and convenient option, it’s worth weighing the potential impact on your professional image. If you’re still unsure, you could discreetly seek advice from a mentor or someone senior at the firm who understands the culture better.
