Graduating Early What Steps Should I do next?
I have a very strong intent to graduate a semester early (This Winter instead of Spring 22') in an effort to save a little on tuition but also because I have the credit capacity to do so. I toyed around withh the idea of adding a minor or dual majoring, but with school being remote and what not I feel as though I have already exploited as much of the college experience as possible. I am starting an internship this Summer with a BB and would like to hope that I can land a return offer. Assuming that I attain a return offer (godspeed), what are the next steps that I need to take so that I can possibly make Winter graduation possible? I assume that I shouldn't take any actions until that offer is explicitly laid out, but I would also like to make sure that this is a possibility before I further explore.
From what I have heard the next steps would require me to contact HR but I'm not sure whether or not I should disclose my intentions to co-workers as an intern as I am afraid that might send a negative message. Additionally, will I need to take exams early, like SIE and Series 7? I have a tentative map in my head and just want to make sure it's possible or what future steps I should take as I am really unsure and it has been weighing on me. Really appreciate any and all input/thoughts.
Thanks!
half of all college students graduate a semester early. it’s a nonissue. do not even ask. if they notice your resume doesn’t have the same graduation date as your transcript (which they won’t) you can explain, “hi, I’m an American and i decided to graduate in the winter. Love, insert name here”
definitely shouldn’t be a problem. had tons of friends graduate a semester early before starting an analyst stint. If anything it makes you more valuable to potentially get a return because you can drop hints that you could start work 6 months early. Of course that’s a whole other decision but ultimately your employer won’t care and it’s 100% a personal choice whether you start working early, volunteer/work part time, or just vibe. Personally I would do the last since it’s probably your only real break before you enter the workforce, but that’s just my two cents!
Appreciate that, I am keen to start work just so it keeps my productivity up. A little worried that if I were to travel or something then I wouldn't have the same type of work mentality that will carry with me from school.
