GS restructuring group: worth it for long term?
Have an opportunity for GS' restructuring group. I am currently at the LevFin desk of another BB. I am attracted by both the GS name and the Group itself, but I have heard mixed things about it, in terms of quality of work, etc. (although I understand the current CEO considers the group one of its growth potentials?)
I appreciate that I could use this as a stepping stone or a stronger RX bank, but I'd rather avoid joining a new bank only for a short period of time. I am not really interested in buy-side exit opps.
Appreciate there were some threads on this in the past but couldn't find anything too recent so any up-to-date feedback would be great.
Do you mean their special situations principal investing group?

That’s right, I am not talking about an investing group - it’s the restructuring group in the LevFin team, part of the ibd.
Lev fin has multiple groups inside of it?
N = 1, but have seen someone go from that group to PJT RSSG.
Yeah ex-GS Lev fin guy here. The RX team isn’t bad at all. It’s not “good” per se but its good enough to lateral to the actual top tier RX seats so it should fit your purposes well. Don’t do a ton of real debtor advisory and do a lot of dip financings and things that places like PJT can’t for obvious reasons.
I thought GS LevFin was just different industry pods like HC , TMT , etc … is there groups within Levfin
thanks for this. How you could consider the group in terms of long-term prospects and career progression within GS?
