any thoughts or ideas on average hours worked in the office as well as whether NY exits are doable?

GS SF is an absolute sweatshop. You will get worked to the bone- there was a recent story of an analyst who committed suicide.

Exits from GS TMT is purely self selection. In other words, if you want NY PE/HF/VC after two years in the group, you most definitely can do that. It's just that the majority of analysts in the SF office have some relation to the west coast, and choose to stay. Has nothing to do with being "limited" by exit ops.

It's fair to say that GS TMT works harder than most groups. But that being said a lot of banks have been rocked in the past 12-18 months with rough hours.

If you were given the opportunity to work in GS TMT, hands down take the offer. One of the best technology groups in the world, with top-notch exit opps.
