Has anyone ever gone from IB to S&T?
Does anyone have any guidance as to how to internally make this move? I’m at a top BB and I have no idea where to start. Also I just hit the desk and I know this is where I want to end up.

Yes, definitely easier than the opposite. It’s a trade down in terms of prestige. I would reach out to a banker you trust or check LinkedIn for people at your firm who have switched divisions.
bump. interested in doing the same or maybe joining a bank AM team. currently in a capital markets banking role
So you've been doing IB for a month or so, and you can already tell it's not for you?
Mind numbing work, what I want to learn in S&T can be transferred to personal investing. Equity derivatives desk is what I will only switch for.
Yeah, I hear you. I think markets-based stuff is more interesting too. Do you think mundane work was due to your sector/industry, or just any IB work would be tedious?
IB work in general is bitch work. I’ll do it for a year then ride. I need a strong why when doing things. Learning on a trade desk will be challenging every day. My drive is to learn more about the product I intend to trade and S&T gives you the opportunity to learn that at a professional level and paying you at the same time. If only i knew what I knew now I would’ve gone for s&t from day 1. But I guess I’m still early and have that choice.
