Help Deciding Offers

I would like to here the opinions of people on this board for the following firms.

Need to make decisions quick and have been very confused.

Oppenheimer & Co, Piper Jaffray, and Stifel Nicolaus (All in New York) Harris Williams (Richmond)

I do not know which groups I will be in yet. They all pay the same base. Living in NYC I hear is expensive but worth it.

Would love to hear the pros and cons of each

Anyone know what the hours are like at each of these shops on average. I hear they are slightly better than BB but if anyone has experience would love your input.

the experience you will get at hw in richmond will beat the other firms you mentioned in NY. As an analyst you will travel (sometimes overseas) on client engagements and you will get guaranteed deal/execution exposure. Also, if you are more interested in sell-side M&A and MMPE take HW for sure. If you are more interested in doing ECM/DCM, IPOs, Convertible, etc deals then Stifel or or PJC might be a better choice because you will not do that at HW.

Friends everywhere except HW.

Piper is decent on the West Coast. I know they had a bunch of analysts quit/leave in their tech group. Exit ops on the west coast are not that bad. Never really heard of the NYC office doing deals.

Oppenheimer does smaller deals and I personally know the least about them. I know one person there who likes the culture of the firm.

Stifel is strong in legacy Thomas Wiesel Partners verticals (Tech and Healthcare). Capital Markets is one of the strongest in the MM according to the league tables. M&A is less prevalent unless you are in certain groups.

You will not be able to talk your way to a higher signing bonus. I personally think it is stupid to not pay street signing bonuses (10k).

Thanks for your input. Would you know anything about the hours at these shops?

I did not enjoy the early part of my summer because I was kind of thrown into everything without any training and did not know anything. I felt so lost and like an idiot. As the summer progressed I started enjoying the work I was doing and was really learning a lot. No one enjoys the hours they work but I realized you will never get everything from a job so you have to sacrifice something.
