I generally very much agree and think you make great points. I think it's worth noting though that PJT/BX hasn't sent any anyone to Carlyle or Oaktree in at least a decade. The people there prefer elite HFs (where they admittedly place better than any other group).

I'm interested that you said, "the school you went to matters a lot more than the bank you work at." I would think that the bank and the skills gained there matter more than the school. I didn't think coming from a non-target/semi-target would hurt you that much.
I've heard HL NYC gives out $50 seamless credit for both lunch and dinner.
When I make life changing decisions I always consider the gastro-implications.
