How do bankers track if your online?
Virtual analyst here... how do bankers know if we are actually online other than sending in work? Do they monitor you as well?

Skype ..?
Skype, Microsoft Teams, any of the internal chat systems have active status and say how long you are away etc.
First they send you a 1:1 message. If you're not responding fast enough (3-5 mins max?), they leave a message in group chat. Then your VP/associate starts blowing up your phone. I was grilled and yelled at so hard for not being responsive (not replying within 10 mins) on Thanksgiving and X-mas....
This is just insane. Never heard of something like that.
Yup. Sounds about right
For real? Honestly, I would just put my phone on airplane mode during Christmas Eve.
There are hundreds of software companies and service providers who track employees. Legally, they are allowed to install software on your work laptop.

Excel also has a function to track hours online.
Really I am kind of curious about this for my own interest. Where could one find this? also is there an APM counter?
At one of the well known smaller platforms and this blows my mind. Like, yes - you can see on our messenger whether you're on or not but most analysts keep it off. I could see during very specific periods needing to be responsive within 10-15 minutes (last 2 days of a bake-off, LOI day on a sell side, day ahead of BoD meeting for live deal/priority client, etc), but that's not EVERY DAY. It works out pretty well cuz our staffer tries really hard to make sure we're not overwhelmed.
My opinion is that some staffers on the street are trash and are not actually staffing people well, instead just chucking shit over the wall to whoever appears like they have capacity/complains the least. Not sure how it works at BBs (other than that GS calls it the BUM lol) but that's been my experience.
