How do I jump to associate? Maximize money? etc?
I have a Masters in finance, and am in my second year of IB at a boutique shop in LA. I would like to bump into EB or BB but I do not really want to be an analyst there. I know an MBA is an option, but not sure if I want to go to school again. If I work another year at my boutique, will I fuck myself in IB? Can I apply for associate roles after two years?
IU Kelley may be an option
What do you mean by maximize money? You are going to get an increase in comp each year in IB (as long as you are not an incel)
From my understanding there's a somewhat defined path to get to associate through 3 options:
1. 2-3 years in banking as an analyst
2. 4-5 years in a banking related role (seen this more recently at a handful of banks)
3. MBA
If you have good standing at your firm, I would probably try and get a title promote, and then transfer. I don't think you will be screwing yourself if you are working on real deals. But, I would find it hard to see an upgrade in bank and a promote at the same time.
Apply for an Associate role at another bank and see what happens, the worst they can do is say no. If you aren't able to lateral over as an Associate get promoted at your boutique and then lateral over afterward. There are no shortcuts in life, if you want something then work for it.
