How do I know when to go home

I'll be starting my summer internship this June at a top tier 1 BB (GS/MS/JPM) and I've heard a lot about the long hours, so I was wondering how would I know when to go home? If it came to 11pm and I have finished all my work, do I go home or do I ask for more work to do? Do I have to wait till the rest of the team go home?

As others have said, go home when everyone you've asked has no more work to do.

Keep in mind that some interns will stay super late for the sake of staying super late because they think it impresses people. It does not. Sometimes they'll be there spending a lot of extra time of projects, self studying or just sitting around in case someone has something for them to do at 2am. It can be hard to resist getting into this pattern, especially when there's pressure to get a return offer, but you will do your best work when you are well rested. No one wants you in the office when you don't have to be there, even if an element of this is selfish, because the bankers you'll be working with want their work done properly.

I've seen interns who did this fail to get offers, because they were working for too many people and failed to deliver any quality work.

Ahh I see, thank you for this! So in the case of finishing my work say around midnight, maybe a little "Hey, I've finished all my tasks, is there anything else you need doing before I head back?" would suffice.
