How do you study/prepare for specific industry groups (IBD)?

On top of learning the relevant hard skills for IB such as DCF modelling and LBO modelling, how can I gain industry exposure and knowledge to thrive in a specific M&A industry group (healthcare, TMT, infrastructure, consumer, FIG, energy)?Different banks have their own processes for staffing y1 analysts on different product/industry teams. I'm of the impression that analysts are selected by their groups based on "fit" (probably based on how well they clicked during the superday/networking session).Apart from having chemistry with the senior bankers, how can I improve my chances of securing my preferred product/coverage team? I'm aiming to secure a spot in a popular coverage team such as healthcare or TMT
