How does one get a BB/EB Summer Internship without being a URM/connection hire?

Currently in the military, will be attending a target school in 2 years; hope to end up at a top EB (think EVR/PJT/CVP). Obviously an uphill task for anyone, so I think a summer internship at a BB or even an EB may be necessary to set me apart from other candidates, but how would I get these internships without being in the aforementioned demographics? If it helps, I would have had at least 1 (hopefully 2) IB internships at boutiques by the time I'm on campus. Also, do correct me if I'm wrong to believe that such an internship is important in the first place.

Shoot for military / veterans programs. It will

be with the diversity program applications that happen earlier than the normal cycle. Lots of vets in banking so network hard w them
