How does one go about recruiting for exits on the job?

I’m starting as an AN1 this summer in a tier 2 city on the northeast, working at a LMM/MM bank. I’m planning my future and eventually returning to the NYC area, considering the current state of my parents’ health, both physically and financially, after my two-year stint.

In simple terms, I’m a bit nervous and confused about how you recruit while working full-time. This past summer, it seemed like everyone was busy and rarely stepped away from their desks, so I’m unsure how they manage to network and research.

My long-term career goals are to work at a tech company for better hours and a more personal interest in my job. Therefore, an exit into CorpDev followed by a PM role later on is a path that interests me.

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
