How does recruiting work in Europe?

I have a kid from Europe in my MSF class in the states. He easily stands out in terms of experience and knowledge. I’m so confused by his choice to go all the way to get an extra degree when his experience could very well land him somewhere decent. He has 4-5 internship across both buy and sell sides. Pretty big names and groups. I was chatting with him during orientation and he was talking about networking and marketing his experience. I was like my brother in Christ how did you not land a top gig back home? He just said the market is tough. He was making a point that networking in the US will get him where he wants, for now at least.

Not my proudest admission but I know I got into this program to rebrand and start fresh, having got into finance pretty late in my undergrad. If I had those many internships I wouldn’t think about it. What are they doing back in Europe?

Where in Europe? In a place like London, networking is practically impossible. There’s just no chance. He’s right that the market is tough. The competition is insane. I have several front office internships too (tho not the flashiest names) and still struggle to move my application past screening.

In places like Paris and Frankfurt and Milan, it used to be easier but they’re catching up with London so fast
