Depends how strong the network/connect is. Typically, networking can get you an interview, but not the outright job.
Put yourself in the other person's shoes. If you worked at a BB, who/how far would you stick your neck for someone? Your kid? Your nephew/niece? Your kids friend?
The saying, it's not about what you know but who you know, can get you pretty far. At the same time, a corporation can't go around just hiring everyone who has a connection. A BB would catch a lot of heat if they solely practiced nepotism.
