How long does it take to get comfortable as an analyst?

Just started ask an IB analyst for a large firm in New York. Everyone is nice and I have been given some assignments. I am doing them but feel that I’m not doing it up to par. Is this normal? How long does it usually take to get comfortable with everything to where I can do the job no problem?

What kind of assignments have you been given in your first few weeks? Are they things that you already knew how to do, or that require shadowing a senior analyst to understand ?

Oh so you guys are still WFH? I thought most BBs were fully back? I think it's actually kind of nice starting WFH because you get to have your little mess-ups privately instead of being chewed out in front of the group. What's making you nervous if the work is doable?

Yes of course, even your directors know it. There's a new crop of analysts (and associates) every year who have to learn.

Just be friendly, willing to work and do your best to get simple things done. Easiest but most important thing a new analyst can do - take 5 min every.time. and check off all of the comments and be sure you got them all. That alone will make your associates like you.

Will the team have patience for that? I was given an assignment this week and I did half right for sure and wasn’t sure how to do a couple parts so had to email the associate. Just kinda feel like I’m being a burden and they think I should know how to do it
