I've seen some recruiters (primarily at the big shops, focusing on PE) with pretty impressive backgrounds. A lot of them are women and former bankers so they are fairly adept in cutting through the BS, especially for pre-mba kids. For example, one recruiter who I've worked with followed the Princeton --> BB --> HBS --> recruiter path. I've also seen some shops that have recruiters who don't seem like they even had a bachelors..

agree 100% on this.. I am on the energy side and very common for top college - enron - to head hunter or other top job prior. you have to be able to build a book of business but at the mid and high level be able to understand the needs and place those people. I think you find more vanilla types at the junior level in accounting, IT etc etc

one top guy in houston said he made over 2 million last year in placements with only one junior person helping... 30% is roughly 600k to split after offices, benefits etc etc... he said last year which was one of the toughest he had faced he made 900k
