How much is resume a factor in moving to 2nd rounds?

Hey guys,

Just wondering how much resume/previous work experience factors into moving candidates to second round, specifically work experience. How does experience weigh against personality?

People have always told me that once you get a first round interview the resume goes out the window, it's basically up to you to market yourself to the recruiter.

For example if you had a person who marketed themselves well but had less strong experience vs. someone with ok marketing, but strong BB experience who would you take?

Thanks!

Yeah, it is difficult to differentiate between resume and how you market yourself, because what you market yourself with is with your work experience. I guess I should rephrase, how much does a previous BB or similarly good internship help you? Do recruiters knowing you worked at x BB already give you a very big advantage in that they already feel favorably toward you.

If you show your competence and fit, it doesn't really matter at that point.

I have an FT S&T offer from Citi/BofA/MER and never worked at a BB before I received my offer. I had three internships but none in banking (accounting major-big 4 and whatnot). I also have no family connections, a 3.4 GPA and go to a non-target. All I did was impress an alumni who is a director in muni's trading and his MD, and they got me an interview. Hopefully that answers your question
