How much time do you have on the weekends as a SA?!?!

Curious because I want my SO to come visit from DC and wasn't sure if banks are going to be killing you on the weekend even if you're a SA. I'm in NYC at a MM IBD if that makes a difference. Some advice would be nice. Thanks !!

Depends on a lot of factors. My MM bank has protected Saturdays and is very good about honoring it for analysts so would assume there is 0 shot our summers work Saturday. Sunday is hit or miss and probably dependent on group activity during the weeks you are there and what they put you on. At my bank / group would probably guess Sunday work for interns is a couple hours at most.

SA weekend hours shouldn't be too bad. I don't think any MM have protected Saturday (?) so you will probably want to keep your laptop close, but doubt you'll be grinding 9am-1am both days as an intern. Saturday and Sunday mornings are fairly safe until 10/11am, so if you want to play tourist do it early.

Also just give a heads up to your FT analyst that your gf/bf is in town so you will be out of pocket for dinner Saturday, but will have your phone on you. they will likely be more than willing to cover for you, especially if you're an otherwise good intern.

Not OP but wondering, if SO is visiting should we let our FT analyst / team know that they’ll be in town? Is it better to keep it on the low but risk getting crushed on a weekend / Is that too big of an ask as an intern?

When I was analyst in banking and if an intern asked 1~2 weeks in advance for me to cover the weekend I am more than happy to let them take it off. Interns are helpful but its not like they add THAT much value where it would really impact my workload.

Maybe an hour or two of more work but any decent analyst should be more than understanding imo because if this wasn't summer, the analyst would have to do everything anyways.
