How should I approach this firm

I did some work with a local firm as part of a class it was an economic analysis of the local business environment (done around 2009) I took the lead on the project and think I was really noticed by the representatives from the firm in question. the firm has an investment banking division that i would really like to work for. In prep for graduating this in March 2012 I want to start getting in contact with them so I'm not a stranger come recruiting time. Where should I start?

The firm doesn't have analyst emails/contact info on their website only directors/MDs and I feel like cold emailing the later may either get me nowhere or get me nixed

Should I get in contact with the guys I did the work with and see if they would recommend me for an interview or get me some contact info? (keep in mind they are part of a completely different business division, but the firm has 1,000 employees in the area) If so how to go about this?

thanks in advance for advice
