How sweaty is Jefferies industrials? (NYC)
Title says it all. I’m at a bank that’s considered less prestigious so have the opportunity to lateral to Jeff in the industrials group. Will I be signing my social life away or is it not as bad as I think?

Career Resources
Based on the most helpful WSO content, Jefferies has a reputation for being a "sweaty" place to work, which implies that the workload is heavy and the hours can be long. This is a result of the firm's efforts to generate revenues comparable to bigger banks with fewer bankers, which naturally leads to more work at every level. The industrials group in NYC, being a part of Jefferies, is likely to follow this overall firm culture.
However, it's also noted that despite the demanding work environment, juniors at Jefferies tend to have great exposure and responsibility. You're often expected to "play up," meaning taking on tasks and responsibilities above your level, which can be a valuable experience for your career growth.
As for your social life, it's a common trade-off in investment banking, especially in a city like NYC and in a firm known for its intense work ethic. If you're considering a lateral move to Jefferies, it's important to weigh the professional growth opportunities and increased deal exposure against the potential impact on your personal time.
Remember, every group within a firm can have its own subculture, so it might be beneficial to reach out to current or former employees of the Jefferies industrials group in NYC for more specific insights.

bump
Bump. Have interview this week so also curious
Don’t go there. Especially if coming from some trash middle market bank like Harris Williams
You're going to work long hours at any reputable bank. Industrials is a top 3 coverage group at JEF, but it will really depend on what sub-sector / MD within Industrials you work with the most. It's a large group with many different personalities, but overall I would pursue the opportunity.
Had a friend there who did An and Aso years. Seemed to be a work hard play hard type of vibe. Also collegial aspect. At least that what he was saying
Ok intern
It’s def sweaty but management has had a rep of being psycho
Read about Sage Kelly
Sage was a Healthcare MD.
Mgmt was really Ben Lorello at the time.
Ben was no saint either. Sentiment is the same either way
Heard the entire shop is sweaty tbh.
JEFF as a whole is sweaty. However, I have a buddy who has been in the Industrials group for 3+ years now and routinely works ~60 hours, goes out multiple nights a week, has free weekends…and no, he isn’t a third year analyst who didn’t get the promo nod, he’s been promoted on the ASO track and is considered a strong performer (so he says anyway)
Yea this is just not true. One of the longest hours at the bank
Heard its really sweaty so you definitely shouldn't interview (I'm currently interviewing)
What are hours like at Jef for the typical VP? Do they still work a ton?
bump, any updated views here?
Have friends there, the juniors are all nice people and make up a big team. They sometimes work very hard, and sometimes they go home by 6 pm - deal flow/pitch dependent
