How to Approach Networking During Internship
I'm interning as an ibd summer analyst and was wondering if anyone has advice on networking both within and outside the firm.
Within the firm, how often should I be reaching out to colleagues or setting up coffee chats without overdoing it?
For outside networking, I'm also trying to think ahead in case I don't receive a return offer and need to recruit full-time. I really like my current firm, and the people have been very nice, helpful, and approachable. My best-case scenario would be to stay at the same firm full-time because I feel like the culture is a strong fit, and I know it can be hard to find seniors who are this approachable and supportive. At the same time, I’m a little worried about not being prepared if I don’t get a return offer.
How would you recommend balancing this? When would it make sense to start speaking with people outside the firm and how can I do that without seeming uncommitted to my current firm?
