How to be the greatest summer analyst ever

what's up guys,

Incoming SA at EVR and want to be the best summer analyst ever, what can I do in the next 9 months to be the best intern EVR has ever seen? Although it is a generalist offer I will most likely be covering HC which is a very strong group there. More than willing to spend 3-4 hours every day until next summer starts as I have 0 social life

Aight killa, then it’s time to grind! Excel and PPT skills need to be GODLY by end of November. Modeling skills GODLY by March. Maintenance until June. All while grinding ER on HC companies and doing stock pitches, personal investing in the space. Go! Now!

+1, don't overthink it.  The expectations for interns are so low that being "normal" can be a differentiator.  It's the (should be) obvious stuff... good attitude, good communication, general interest in what's going on, reading the room (i.e. Analyst is slammed so I'm going to offer help, analyst is pissed off so I'm not going to bother them, etc. etc.).

Hot take - you'll be worse off by spending 3/4 hours a day for next 9 months trying to become the perfect intern

Second this. The cool guy who is fun to hang out with, shows up and tries, and gets the hang of an index match by the end of the summer, is much more well-liked around the office than a socially awkward guy who knows every Excel trick in the book. Take it down 1000 notches, hardo is a negative thing in this world and SA return offers are not that competitive.
