How to deal with an extremely annoying friend

A friend of mine recently received a summer offer at the Charlotte office of a firm that rhymes with "Fells Bargo."

My firm is smaller, but my total comp is significantly higher than his will be if he gets a FT offer. My friend WILL NOT shut up about how his firm is "top in the league tables" and how "lev fin has the hottest deal flow" despite not being able to explain how they fit into a typical deal process.

I don't want to crush him, as he's a great guy. He's just gotten a little heady and I would hate to see him ruin the summer experience by being too arrogant during his time at the firm. Is this something that I should address, or do I let him cook for a bit and see where it all shakes out?

I went all-in for the WF SA 2024 process. I remember seeing this friend in the superday roster and then seeing him update the WSO thread that he got the offer. I didn't. I wish him the best of luck.

Tell him, plain and simple, to "figure it out". If he doesn't know where the LevFin group is located in a deal process then there's some things he still has to learn before dominating the streets of Charlotte.

If nothing else, tell him he better live up to his shit-talking, because there's one kid from that superday that would still kill for that spot, even now, four months later.

As far as de-hardo'ing, that was something I took away from not getting the WF offer and what ultimately led to me landing the offer that I finally did.

That's kinda what I meant by "figure it out." Acknowledging that nobody gives a fuck about your junior summer play-pretend job is the first and biggest step to take.

You should get rid of the rhyme for his name, btw. I haven't thought of him since the superday and I immediately remembered his name from this.

The hardo phase builds at college and peaks to the first 2-3 years of having a full time offer. Just let him have his fun of viewing himself as a badass despite being a complete nerd like 90% of this board and he will eventually come down from it
