How to go about setting up coffee chats during an internship?

I've seen countless ppl say to set up chats w junior and sr. members of the team throughout the internship, and I was curious what the general etiquette is for setting those up? These ppl are busy so it seems weird to, as an intern, to ask to chat randomly

pop over by their desk > teams > email

more senior I would email or go through the EA.

Everyone has been briefed to expect interns asking for coffee's so it is not a problem

Both.

3 buckets IMO

1) People you are staffed with - after a deal or a while working with them. Ask for feedback on how you performed, what you could do better

2) Seniors - unlikely to get facetime with many EDs/MDs. Need to have the big decision makers know your names

3) People not staffed with. Ideally everyone in the team should have one interaction with you by the end of the summer. If not a coffee chat, have a chat with them at a drinks event or something

Really not all that awkward; you'll see once you actually start how people go about doing it. Echoing the above, you'll usually ask in person or message them, depending on how busy and large your team is.

Would start with analysts first, then work up in seniority. A solid target is to coffee chat everyone you're staffed with on a deal (these will be the people reviewing you, i.e. dictating whether you get a return or not), but again, depends on the structure of your internship.

Coffee chats take a little bit of a different shape to recruiting, in that they're less formal and you can make things a little more casual while still being a sponge and soaking in all of the professional advice they provide. Have five Qs in your back pocket that you can draw on, but otherwise just let the conversation flow naturally and get to know them and have them get to know you. Really all there is to it.

is it rly just as simple as "would love to grab coffee sometime this week and chat abt x y z" js more formal
