how to really know what a boss / team / company is like

hey guys, I seem to have a bad track record of getting in to jobs where the boss is a dick. Have you monkeys found any good ways of stress-testing what it's like working at a place? Obviously one tries to ask current / past employees. But what else?

yeah bud i think you got it, just try to reach out to many past employees (the current ones.... can't say bad stuff right...) or friend of friends. Ask them how person "a" is doing at company "x" without disclosing you are interviewing there.

Another way is through the interview process: I like speaking to candid interviewers / employees... the one's with all the fabricated answers you can't really take them 100%. If my boss can be honest with me during the interview, I am sure he can be honest with me once i am his employee.
