How to understand finance at a deep intuitive level?
I’m a first year analyst from a non-target and non-finc background at a regional IB. The vertical I’m in though we utilizing classical financial analysis, the modeling and a lot of the analysis is relatively niche to the industry and heavily technical. As a result, though I know the adequate amount of finance to get by. It’s unsettling to me as I want to deeply understand financial concepts at a deep level. I was wondering if any of you had any recommendations on anything to self teach this? So far I’ve bought a used finance textbook and plan on going through it or will probably go through my buddies CFA material. But wondering if anyone had different recommendations?
Take this from an intern as u will, but I think the CFA is the right call - what you're describing is a desire for a formal, fundamental, bottom-up education of finance (i would even go as far as calling it MECE) and the CFA provides that. Hell, even consider sitting for it since you're already reading it.
Do keep in mind the CFA doesnt teach modeling, however it does fill in the gaps
Not even close. The CFA is just memory recall over a broad number of financial subjects. You don’t gain the deep level of understanding that OP wants.
so how to gain a deep level of understanding of finance. how to become robert merton
