I say potatoe you say patata...?
So, I have been attending many networking events and information sessions and have noticed that many of the more established speakers, such as steve black, pronounce the word "finance" in a weird way.
Is the correct way to say it "Fy Nance" (as in a similar pronunciation to fire)
or
"Fi Nane" (as in fist)
Just curious because I tend to pronounce it the first way while many executives say it the latter.
only ballers are allowed to say Fi Nance.....
I think it depends on how you've been brought up. I've heard a lot of people here in the U.K. say 'Fi-nance'. The former seems to be more of an American pronunciation.
Say it however you want to say it. The English language will never have a strong letter:phoneme correlation because it underwent a major vowel shift after its writing was codified, with no subsequent reverse engineering to the spelling system.
i am under the impression that only partners, principals and top executives pronounce finance like 'fi-nawnce'. I think it's a ladder progression though.
lets rank the pronounciation to determine which is more prestigious!
Undergrads and prospective monkeys: FYE-nance Analysts and Associates: fi-NANCE Higher Uppers: fi-NAHNS Sahelians: Ku'di
Agree that the plebs should stick with Fiy-nance whilst ballers should maintain the "FINN-AWWNSSS" status quo.
Also, for those in the latter group, remember to to keep your nose held slightly higher than whatever peasant you are talking to.
