I stopped responding to networking messages

I fucking hate my job. I cant defend it anymore to seniors who are so excited about IB. I would be a hypocrite if I speak to one more student and tell them how great and satisfying it is. I literally dont care about anything except how to get out without being broke. Is that the pandemic effect or natural progression of being an analyst?

I don't think anyone is under the illusion that IB is the promised land. Most simply ask a couple of genuine questions and potentially get a referral at the end of it to increase their chances of getting an interview. If you really hate it so much and want to quit, then I don't think you have anything to lose by having 10-15 minutes calls with candidates and just referring them at the end. Do them a favour which costs you nothing.

^This begins with a strawman argument and goes downhill from there. Obviously no one is "under the illusion that IB is the promised land" -- but way too many bright-eyed students who message me vastly underestimate just how far from the promised land banking really is. I think that far too many would-be bankers would be much better off doing something more fulfilling with their lives. I can't very well tell them never to come to my firm; and assuming I care at all about these students, I don't want to be the guy who enables them either. So I'm with OP on this one -- easiest simply not to take the call.

Feels analogous to helping someone find the entrance to the restaurant where you got food poisoning. You would say since I'm leaving anyway, why not take the time to increase their chances finding it? It's a favour which costs me nothing, after all..

If you don’t like it then quit, but it has nothing to do with you deciding to help someone.  Let them find out on their own what they want.

I think almost all prospects are prepared for it to suck, they just think the money/clout is a fair trade off... Prayers go out to the kids who romanticize IB though, I’m sure they’re in for a rude awakening

I used to do Asia-Pacific PE (kind of like FoF). Now I do something else but happy to try and answer questions on that stuff.
