IB -> Pro Sports -> IB?

Interned at a boutique from a non-target, then went to go play pro sports (not major league affiliated) after graduation. Currently deciding wether to get started on a finance career, and how easy it would be to get into an analyst program ~1 year post-graduation. I'm assuming the further I get from my graduation year, the harder that would be, and might require an MBA if I choose to continue playing my sport for 2-3 years.

Any advice or stories of others who have done similar are welcome.

May be doable. Would your internship boutique take you back?

I'd be careful getting an MBA without any traditional work experience - if you want to do MBA, you should do ~2 years in corp finance or something similar first. Banks won't be keen on giving an associate role to someone whose professional work experience is 1 summer in undergrad.

Some questions to think about / gauge how competitive you'd be

- Was the internship boutique name-brand or just a local place? If it's a well-known regional boutique that helps your case. If just a local shop, minimal value add to your resume given didn't do it FT

- What level of pro sports? Are you making enough money that someone would understand why you pursued out of college? Would a casual sports fan get it, or would they need to be an ardent follower of your sport. Any chance you could do the sport part-time while also having a non-IB salaried job just for some work experience?

- What does your resume look like - 4.0, finance major, D1 college athlete is an easy sell. 2.7 comms major is going to be tough.

I would get on LinkedIn and hit up any people from your sport who are in finance. Expand to all sports if needed - tons of D1 athletes out there who look out for their own. You're not really on the right timing for BB/EB but a regional boutique might take a shot on you and easy to move up from there.
