IB Work Flow

Current an SA at a LMM shop in my hometown. Heading to Chi MM (think Baird, Blair, Gugg Tech Services, Lincoln, etc.) and wondering if the work will be more of the same.

All of the work I'm doing at this LMM shop is manual research. Finding buyers list contacts in excel, making rough market reports with inadequate data (literally just access to IBIS, everything else I need to use public data). No quantitively work in excel, and limited exposure to live deals.

I'm curious if this is much the same as what I'll be doing as a SA and eventually FT in MM IB. It's just mind-numbingly boring and I would rather spend 1.5x as many hours doing actually valuable work. My guess is that some of this grunt work is simply because my firm lacks the resources (design department, subscriptions, etc.) to streamline workflows, but I'm still curious what an analyst stint will be like at a more reputable shop. Insights?
