IB workload- not that bad

Hi all, longtime watcher here and just wanted to comment amidst everyone talking about IB workload and mental health. No doubt it's an issue, but I feel that now people exaggerate the issue.

100 hour weeks - sure, 3-4 times a quarter. But I was getting close to this in high school at exeter. take time for 5-6 hours of sleep, eat quickly, and cut distractions. that's it. you can do 15 hours of work easily.

Lack of relationships - agree with this. esp after WFH, lack of relationships on teams. can be a harm, and you get less than optimal time to form outside relationships. It's just about your personality. Definitely consider your needs when decided whether or not to pursue.

Burnout - understandable. Power through or take an exit if extreme. Its a possibility in every profession that requires hard work and has high reward. IB is not especially prone.

Only thing I would say is make sure you're getting paid adequately. there is ZERO point in putting yourself through this if at a lower tier bank making less than 130k as A1, 300 associate, 500 VP, 800+ MD. ZERO. its not worth it.

Overall, I think people come at this with an overly emotional mindset, which is understandable esp considering recent events (bofa). Just take a step back and reason with yourself.
