[IBD] Summer Analyst Tips

I think this topic is something many people are interested in and I've looked into past posts, but most are either outdated or spread out. The purpose of this post is to highlight the IBD Summer Analyst journey and how to succeed and secure the return offer.

I'm an incoming SA for a BB in NYC next summer and am curious to hear about the summer analyst process. From what I've heard, the first week will generally be an introduction to the firm and you'll eventually get paired with a mentor within your group. From there you will work within the group.

I'm interested in hearing about must have hard skills for summer analysts, I'm thinking the following are good:

1) Be an excel god (are there any sample models I could just practice building and rebuilding?) 2) Understand the significance of formatting and aligning things on powerpoint

Moving on, what has the Summer Analyst journey and process been for you guys (maybe this summer was weird haha)? What type of perks/swag did you guys get?

Also just curious, if we're in office next summer, do interns get their own desktop or are they given a laptop? Do interns get corporate emails? Corporate phones?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Write down everything anyone ever tells you. Print out everything you will ever have to submit and use it to triple check your work. Do those two things and you are 90% of the way to a return offer.
