If I get a B- in undergraduate finance can I still become an ibanker?

I'm currently a sophomore at a non-target (think wake forest, ucla, usc, uva) and I think I'm going to get a B- in my finance class. After this summer I will have two investment banking internships and my overall gpa will be around a 3.65 (taking the B- into consideration). Do you think I will still have a chance for BB or elite boutiques? Do firms even look at transcripts for SA positions or do they only lookat your GPA?

hugh mirin - reps till I'm out.

OP, I have wrote this many, many times. You can break into banking even if you failed multiple classes. If you put breaking into banking on a scale of "difficult" things to do in life it would be shifted towards the "easy" end of the spectrum.

money money money moneyI think I'm going to get a B- in my finance class.

You should probably switch your major to english poetry, remove two "money's" from your user name, and add a negative sign before it

You're fine. Just keep your GPA up - aim for a 3.7. At times I was asked in interviews how I did in the finance courses that I listed under relevant coursework, but that's the most attention it would get and even that's rare.

LHDanWell, did you make the B- because you didn't do your work and didn't give any effort? Or, did you make a B- because you just couldn't comprehend the material? Be honest with yourself.

+1. In either case, I'd probably recommend against going into finance. If you didn't study enough, that means that you probably don't like finance enough for it to be something that you'd like doing every day. If you couldn't comprehend the material, then that doesn't bode well for your future finance prospects.

Take some time to think about what you really value.

Looks like I should at least answer both your questions in one post.

Do you think I will still have a chance for BB or elite boutiques? Yes, anything at or over the cutoff will do (e.g. 3.5)

Do firms even look at transcripts for SA positions or do they only look at your GPA? They'll only look over your transcript after 1st rounds from my experience - it's more efficient when you have a handful of transcripts as opposed to thousands during 1st rounds
