in person coffee chat during IB internship

Probably a dumb question, but can someone explain how in-person coffee chats usually work during the internship?

Mainly wondering about:

  • best etiquette for scheduling them
  • how many is “normal” to set up
  • whether the intern or banker usually chooses the coffee spot
  • who typically pays
  • whether these are usually quick coffees, walks, lunch, etc.

Typically your group will give you some guidance on this, reasonable question to ask your summer staffer. Some groups want you meeting EVERYONE and some don't really like coffee chats pulling everyone away from the desk and prefer you to get to know folks over lunch, happy hours etc.

I wouldn't reinvent the wheel on coffee - pick somewhere within a block or two. Often people pay for their own but accept it if they offer to buy yours. As a FT I much prefer a stroll/walk and talk instead of coffee if it's nice out, that's also an option.
