I haven't "made it" by any means but I just signed an offer with a MM for SA 2021. I've never been to the States before college, and coming from a developing country, it was quite a cultural change. I think one of the most important things is to stay on top of which banks sponsor and which don't so that you can allocate your time networking with the right banks (i.e I wish I had known UBS doesn't sponsor before talking to 10+ people at the firm..). Try to talk to as many people as possible, from previous interns/analysts to MDs. Start out with the banks that don't sponsor/small banks to get more comfortable talking to people before heading to your targetted firms. Even if you don't get your resume pushed, you'll get used to talking with a banker/like a banker and that shows in your interview.
Like a lot of people gonna tell you, it's a numbers game. Just keep talking to people, applying to places, getting rejected, interviewing and I'm sure you'll get it. Goodluck
Can you expand on what you mean by talking “like a banker”?
