Interning with CFPB

Ok so long story short, I'm a sophomore at a large non-target that sends a few kids to IB each year (mostly MM/smaller regional, a couple go to NYC and to BBs). I have a 3.7 and am involved with a few different clubs and whatnot. Minor unpaid internship freshman summer.

Looking for an internship this summer and while our main internship fair is in the winter, I'm try to look around as much as I can (went to the main career fair and a couple of recruiters seemed impressed with my resume, so hopefully something will come of it).

Anyways, one of the clubs I am in hosted an event a week ago where a guy from from the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and they say they take sophomores as interns and I would love to live in DC for a summer (hot as balls though).

Only reservation, and it a pretty big one, is that I hate the government, especially the way it is growing, and think this agency has a lot of unconstitutional power and whatnot. How would CFPB look on a resume? I figure some public sector experience would be nice but I don't know. Figured some of the banks might hate it haha.

The speaker was a current employee and was talking it up saying that lots of old McKinsey, Bain, BCG, etc... people work there and kind of hinted at it being a great place to network for a nice private sector job. So basically I might be a whore, throw away my personal beliefs for career gain. Hell, I guess I'd fit right in in Washington!

I'm in interested in both consulting and finance/IB though and don't want to work for the government the rest of my life. Could be an interesting internship for me at least, combing two of my passions business and politics.

Did a search and since CFPB is relatively new not much came up but someone said it it was ok and likened it to working for the SEC or Fed resume wise.

Just wanted some feedback. Sounds like it could be a cool opportunity depending on what projects I'm working on but I have a lot of reservations.

Thanks!
