Internship Question - Beginning my junior year
Hey fellas, I'm beginning my junior year of school in a few weeks and haven't had any relevant work experience in finance at this point. My GPA is pretty good, however, and I have a lot of extracurriculars, and only haven't had finance experience because I have been too young for an internship until now (I just turned 20 a few weeks ago). Anyways, I posted my resume on this site (//www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/summer-internship-… - feel free to chime in on what you think) and the first few comments said that this resume would not get me any BB gigs, which is perfectly fine, because I realize I should get experience at a boutique to make my resume stronger. My question is, would it hurt to apply to some of the bigger banks this summer? I don't know if it would be a bad decision because they'd think that since they turned me down once then they'd not really care the second time around, or if the applications would be completely independent of each other. Thanks a lot for your time guys!
but if you're going for anonymity, don't title your resume as Michael_Holden_Resume, unless that's not your real name. Also, you need to black out Rhode Island U, Company Names, etc.
you need to add much more to your resume. i understand you are limited in your work experience, but adding an additional 2-5 bullets to your experiences will make a world of difference.
you need emphasize different skill sets gained on each job instead of writing what you just did. also, use numbers and describe certain experiences for example:
Aramark - Food Vendor - Interact with customers on both a large scale and individual basis changed to - Developed ability to effectively perform under fast paced situations while dealing multiple customers simultaneously
alright, the grammar is messed up, but hopefully you get the idea. talk about the amount of money you handled, maybe the largest sum or an average daily balance, etc.
i would suggest you read all the resume preparation material on ibankingfaq.com, and various other finance related websites.
then post a resume for actual review.
I'm making it up as I go along.
Mike,
you can put bullet points for your EC's like your frat to fill up more space. take my advice with a grain of salt, im a college student.
thanks for your input, but neither of you answered the question, although you guys did help me make a few changes to my resume (Messaged you Cornelius). Anyways, would it hurt my chances of getting an internship to a firm if I apply and get turned down the year before?
