Internship - Rising junior at Wharton
Hey all,
I'm a rising junior at Wharton, and this summer I'm working at the PE arm of Northwestern Mutual. I'm trying to figure out though how well I stack up against the competition going into next year's interviews when it comes to experience? Am I sub-bar, average, above?
Thanks.
Just to clarify, I'm trying to aim for bulge-brackets if possible next year, and I just want a realistic assessment of my chances.
Depends on what exactly you do at your job this summer. If you get into some modeling, researching potential deals, working closely with the associates and above, etc. to where you learn something relevant to the banking realm, you'll be in great shape- at least from the work experience side. Also if your days there are fast paced, unpredictable, and/or long, that will add to your appeal as an IB candidate.
If you're making copies and answering phones 9-5.... you're not doing so great.
i've doing a lot of modelling, comps, research, and memo writing, as well as meeting with i-bankers when they come in on roadshows or presentations, so that should be up to par?
if you're catching on to all of that, you're above par- sounds like a good experience to me.
If you're concerned because the name 'NW Mutual' doesn't make the student body at Wharton shit their pants- don't be. For a summer analyst interview, it's the experience that counts, 100%.
