Investment Bankers have DCFs templates that they modify for each deal?
Do investment bankers have Excel DCF templates that you can add/modify stuff depedning on the company to build a clean an orderly DCF? Or they always start from scratch with a blank spreadsheet? Same goes with PowerPoint presentations. As BBs always deal with big companies and sometimes the same industry I suppose they have their blueprints right?
Depends on the team/who’s actually doing the work. Templates are normally used for pretty much everything ppt related, and some analysts like to make models from scratch depending on complexity (more complex = greater need to create from scratch).
I understand. I ask this because I usually train builidng DCFs with alresdy existing blank template and modify them depending on the situation. I hope that is not a problem, or it is?
Always use templates for DCF, LBO, merger model, comps and precedents. Can be useful for new analysts and associates to build their own as a learning exercise but reinventing the wheel otherwise is a sure fire way to make mistakes a team/firm. Robust templates with strong cross checks built in are extremely important
