Investment Banking in Sydney, Australia

Just a little bit about myself:
- attend UNSW Sydney
- 3rd year bachelor of commerce student, graduating at the end of 2020.
- have a WAM of 85.2 (GPA: 3.64/4)
- dean's list recipient (top 3% of my cohort)
- have only received HDs or Ds.
- have worked as an analyst intern at Commonwealth Bank and currently working as an auditor at an accounting firm.
- received an ATAR of 94 (I don't know if this relevant at all)
I have made this post because I have been thinking about pursuing a career in investment banking. I would like to know what are my chances of getting an IB internship and what else should I be doing to make my chances of receiving an internship/grad role higher. Also, seeing as my ATAR is mediocre, would that affect my chances or do recruiters only care about university results.

Generally speaking, it is very difficult to secure IB Analyst positions without a previous IB Summer Internships as not only are there less spots available, you are competing against other IB Summer Analysts who didn’t get a return offer.
So first of all, your primary objective should be to secure an internship at this point.
Your grades and previous internships will set you up nicely and I feel like you should get interest from most IBs as you do definitely meet their profile.
From my student days and browsing a number of profiles, in addition to what you have done thus far, I would suggest trying to do the following: -Attempt to get some sort of a temporary PE/asset management gig (although I think this is in most cases through parents in Australia) -Join a finance-related society in Uni and attend their events, participate in some investing activities -Try find and enrol into Investing Banking Case Competitions (e.g - UBS) these will help tremendously and for a reason, they give you relevant experience given you take them seriously -Enrol in any other finance-related competitions such as stock-picking ones
All of the above will help you stand out from the crowd, and by that I mean get you into the perfect ‘frame’ of what recruiters expect to see and tick-off all the needed boxes.
Of course go ahead and buy one of the IB courses (e.g - WSO/BIWS/WSP), start learning financial modeling, PowerPoint and all the technicals as these will increase your chance of securing an internship once you are in the room.
That’s all that really comes to mind, but good luck my dude, you are a very fitting candidate with good grades and useful internships, just a matter of keeping the hussle up and being ready for the internship applications (I think they’re usually in June from memory?).
