Is IB in Canada even worth it?
Im still in UG in Canada and was once a "IB or bust" prospect, maybe i still am.
Was exploring some finance career paths in canada and this suddenly hit me:
Toronto has way less seats (competitive), smaller deals and less deal flow, significantly lower comp (exchange rate adjusted), limited exit opps (no MF pipeline), and Toronto COL is not even that low.
Am I missing something?
Would a career in lets say REPE be a smarter choice over IB? (yes, i did an internship in RE and liked it.)
bump
Exits are limited as well. Maybe about top 20% of IB class gets a good buyside exits in Canada and only top ~2-5% get an exit into US buyside
Thats tough, where do the rest usually end up at?
Usually just exit to some random finance role in corporate or startups
Would you say attrition is lower in Toronto bc ppl are less inclined to take paycuts from these exits?
yes much more lifers
Confirmation bias
comp is lower on an exchange rate basis but you also pay your expenses in cad? agree to confirmation bias with the other guy
