Is it okay to interview for 2 different teams at the same bank?

So, I recently applied for 2 lateral analyst opportunities with 2 different coverage teams at a big bank and received an interview for the industrials team yesterday and the O&G team today. I was contacted by different people / HRs within the firm for each interview, so I don't even think they know I'm interviewing for 2 different teams. I ideally would like to interview with both teams as that would give me "two chances" essentially to get an offer at that bank.

That being said, I was wondering if banks are okay with candidates interviewing for multiple different teams at one bank? Or do banks see that as a red flag?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's generally acceptable to interview for different teams within the same bank, especially if these teams operate independently. Here are a few points to consider:

  1. Transparency: While it's not uncommon for candidates to interview with multiple teams, transparency can be beneficial. If asked directly, it's wise to be honest about your applications within the bank. This shows integrity and helps manage any potential internal communications about your candidacy.

  2. Understanding of Each Team's Focus: Make sure you are well-prepared for each interview by understanding the specific focus and needs of each team. This demonstrates your genuine interest and dedication to the particular roles you are applying for.

  3. Bank's Internal Policy: It's important to consider the bank's policy on internal applications. Some banks might encourage internal mobility and see your applications to different teams as a sign of your enthusiasm and flexibility. Others might have a more rigid approach.

  4. Communication with HR: Since you were contacted by different HR representatives, it might be a good idea to inquire discreetly about the bank's view on interviewing for multiple teams. This can be framed as a question about the best way to navigate the application process while showing commitment to the bank.

  5. Career Goals Alignment: Be prepared to discuss how each role aligns with your long-term career goals. This can help justify why you are exploring multiple opportunities within the same institution.

In summary, while interviewing with multiple teams at the same bank is generally not a red flag, handling the situation with transparency and a clear understanding of each team’s goals can help turn it into a positive aspect of your application process.
