Is it okay to say this in an interview or not?
If a recruiter asked me “How did you do in accounting class?” and I had a B.. is it okay if I tell them the truth of what happened or is personal issues supposed to be left out.
Here is my story:
For the first month and a half of the semester, I had a 100 in accounting. However, my 3-year relationship with my GF broke up with a few days before the biggest project was due. Which was worth 35% of my overall grade. I usually could have knocked this kind of project out in a day, however, the breakup actually tore me apart. As sad as it may have sounded for me, I was literally incapacitated by the breakup and couldn’t bring myself to do anything just because I was in so much pain. I ended up getting a 0 and was failing accounting for a while. Eventually brought it back up to a B overtime but that is the gist of it.
no - you don't want to get too personal. If they ask you about a class, stay professional. Say you did "well" and learned xyz and studied xyz cases. Don't bring your personal story up - no matter how valid - since that will leave the recruiter with a weird feeling about you.
Also no recruiter is gonna ask you that lol
Man, its a B...
GPA is just a barrier of entry when screening resumes. Nobody will ask you about what grade you got in X class.
"I was literally incapacitated by the breakup and couldn't bring myself to do anything"
Hard to imagine a scenario where this sounds better than just responding that you got a B and could've done better.
"What's your greatest weakness?" "I'm a simp"
although this is a joke. I think it is important as well. don’t want a character flaw such as small personal life events throwing your train off the track. although a B isn’t the train off the tracks what so ever, this answers shows that attitude towards it.
Yes agree. Sad for the OP, but this could actually be a big red flag in the mind of an interviewer (not saying personal shit shouldn't impact you, but ya know).
