Is it possible to enter healthcare banking at this point without much financial experience?
I am a rising senior at Yale. I have a 3.8 in MCDB (Biology). Up until now, I was planning on applying to medical school. However, I have come to the (very late) conclusion medical school isn’t for me. At the very least, I want to take 1-2 years before making a decision.
I’ve always been interested in finance. I have taken 5-6 economics classes out of personal interest and work at a startup.
Before I even knew what investment banking was, I followed the progress of drugs/medical devices (related to my research field) in clinical trials and how the results have massive effects on the valuation of the company. I’m also interested in energy, renewables, and technology.
Pretty much all of my friends who are analysts worked at the bank for 1-2 summers prior. After searching these forums, it seems like most big banks don’t hire SAs after graduation. Would I have to bet on the 1/1000 chance of being hired as an analyst out of undergrad without an internship? Is it possible to be hired as a SA, and if they like you, get a FT position starting after the internship is over? How would you recommend I proceed?

Sounds like you want to work in ER, not banking. Depending on your work/internship experience you could be a very viable candidate for ER. I realize you never did an SA stint, but have you ever worked in an office environment? It sounds like you spent your summers in a lab or at this startup. They might be concerned that you can't cut it in the bureaucratic and often times stifling environment that is a BB. A lot of the work will be "beneath" your intellect if you are used to scientific research and startups.
You should look into consulting as well. From what I imagine your resume looks like, you are an excellent fit for MBB.
