Is it possible to get really good at a hobby while in IB?
Has anyone actually done that? Say you started learning guitar as an Analyst 1 and your group is not the sweatiest and not the chillest either, like 75 hours a week on average.

Of course, you’ll definitely have 10,000 hours free over the course of your analyst program
Definitely easier if you’re working from home.
not sure you’ll want to do regimented guitar practice after getting home at 10pm
It would really depend on the hobby. Learning a new language with several thousand hours as a requirement is a stretch, but other stuff like changing a diet or learning how to cook or picking up a new sport is certainly feasible.
It is just that most people have their jobs, commute, personal stuff, shopping, cleaning, gf/friends, etc.. there isn't much time to go around for hobbies.
Is Excel considered a hobby?
I’m a musician making 5 figures a good year off my work. I don’t find IB all that time consuming i always just make time during the week for art related stuff.
I play saxophone although I don't think I can be that Asian Coltrane dude playing some late night Jazzzzz at a divey bar making bank.
Just keep practicing those ii-V subs on Giant Steps you'll make it
One guy I know got his pilots license. I have no idea how he can fly given how tired he always is.
Nice...
Yes if you really want to. It's the same thing as going to the gym.
If your hobby is modelling or PowerPoint, then absolutely.
With a caveat that I am not in IB at the moment, I still do have reasonable hours of work, averaging 50-60 hours per week. Despite that I manage to fit in my hobbies of singing, reading, writing for a bit (apart from working out everyday) into my daily schedule. You should definitely be able to fit in a single hobby alongside of working 75 hours a week. However you should also be willing to give up on other distractions such as Netflix etc and probably halve your current social life if you go out frequently.
Totally agree. I think it's manageable to get good at a hobby even pulling 80 hours a week.
All distractions could be hard. I'll try.
Another thing is this hobby of mine now is coding. My eyes literally feel sore after staring at computers all day from work.
This and also if you have a flexible WFH and your hobby can be done within arms reach of a computer you will be much better off.
Guitar is a great one. I picked it up during COVID and when I'm working from home I often just practice for 20-30 minutes between meetings when I have some downtime.
