Is it true you need to know how to speak french if your working at Soc Gen? That what I have been told, not sure if its true or not.

Anecdotal, but the 2 people I know who work there are both fluent in French.
This is speaking specifically about the NY office, but a good friend of mine was in IBD at Soc Gen and he is 100% NOT fluent in French.
Perhaps in France but I don't think that's the case in foreign offices.
Had a friend in their FO who said it wasn't required but heavily suggested. They do offer free language training classes/programs for their employees.
No - not for NY. Friend who was there spoke zero French but did mention MD's and VP's would occasionally chat in French with other French speaking juniors fwiw. Definitely not necessary though
