Is Lateraling To NYC Worth It?

The title is the gist. I am currently working my way up the ranks at a LMM boutique in a city that is not a renowned financial hub. There are some things that are clear to me - job security, upward mobility, and comp. But there are also a few things that aren't - limited exit ops, limited mentorship, and its starting to feel like limited growth.

I have been recruiting for NYC for awhile and have finally gotten an opportunity to lateral. The thing is, I came to grips with the fact I may not ever have received a NYC offer - and as of late, I am not entirely sure what I want to do with my career post-IB.

Long story short - I don't want to put a bandaid on a garden hose by lateraling and doing much of the same somewhere else, but I also don't want to limit myself and be complacent in my current role. Any insights would be great!

Go get the NYC experience. An opportunity like this won’t always come your way, and it’s easier to transition back to a smaller financial hub once you have a bigger name/city on your CV.

If you don't like your coverage, don't like your group and don't like your exits this seems like a total no brainer. You will have better options out of NYC, even if you are there for a year that is okay. You're allowed to do a short stint or two if you stay at your post-IB job for a while and your moves make sense (for this, they do)
